Gift Aid

As a Scout Group we can use Gift Aid to increase the value of your Subscription payments from £30 to £37.50. (An extra £2,500 per year if everyone signs up and all for a little bit of paperwork!)

Our Group Scout Leader, Conway Tearle has a supply of declaration forms (They only take a minute to fill-in). Please speak to him if you want a form or you have any other queries. Custom form for G40 as word-doc.

How Gift Aid works

From the HMRC website.

"Gift Aid offers a simple way to increase the value of your gift to UK charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs), by allowing them to reclaim basic rate tax on your gift. If you pay higher rate tax you can claim extra relief on your donations. If you claim age-related allowances or Tax Credits, Gift Aid donations can sometimes increase your entitlement."

"Charities take your donation - which is money you've already paid tax on - and then reclaim basic rate tax (at 20 per cent) on its 'gross' equivalent (the amount before tax was deducted). In practice, this means that if you give £10 to charity using Gift Aid, that gift is worth £12.50 to the charity. This is because the charity claims back the basic rate tax on your donation directly from us.

Between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011 the charity will also get a Government supplement of 3p on every pound you give. This 'transitional relief' for the charity does not affect your personal tax position.

The Gift Aid scheme is only for gifts of money by UK taxpayers and there are rules limiting the value of benefits which can be received in return."
