Conway joined cubs at boarding school in Nova Scotia in September 1956. He moved to Gravesend in September 1957 and then to Bristol, joining the 26th North Cote Scout Group in 1958. He came to London as a student and joined 11th Lewisham North as a leader in 1968 which subsequently merged with 40th Greenwich and took their group number. Conway has been in scouting for over 50 years.
